4 days hike Atlas Mountains discovery: This 4 Day Trek, departing from Marrakech, travels to the spectacular High Atlas Mountains with its verdant valleys and ancient lifestyles and with its gentle local Amazigh hospitality.
You will cross four valleys from Imlil to the lush Ourika Valley ending in Setti Fatma.
Immerse yourself in the landscapes and culture.
You will stay in local houses in remote villages and spend a night wild camping.
Ultimately, you will go away refreshed, rewilded and reconnected with a new sense of purpose and a different aspect on what it is to be out in nature.
You can transfer from Marrakech either on Day 1, or the previous day with accommodation in Imlil.
Day 1Imi Oughlad - Tidli
Our adventure begins at Imi Oughlad, perched at 1500m, where we meet the Guide, the Muleteers, and watch as the mules are carefully packed for the journey ahead. From here, we cross the river and bid farewell to the Imlil Valley, setting off on our trek toward Tizi el Bour. Along the way, we are treated to breathtaking views of the Imlil Valley, dotted with the charming villages of Imi Oughlad and Ait Ali. From the pass, the scenery transforms, offering a stunning panorama of the Imenane Valley below.
Descending from Tizi el Bour, we arrive at the picturesque village of Imska, a tranquil spot nestled by a flowing river. Here, we pause for a well-deserved picnic lunch, taking in the serene surroundings as we refuel for the next leg of our journey. After feeling refreshed, we begin a steady ascent, weaving our way through terraced villages and rugged mountain trails. The climb takes us past Tinoughar, leading eventually to the high-altitude villages of Tidli.
As the afternoon deepens, we continue to soak in the dramatic landscapes of the Atlas Mountains. The air grows cooler as we ascend, and the sound of village life fades into the distance, replaced by the soft rustle of the wind and the crunch of our boots on rocky paths. Along the way, we’ll pass ancient walnut groves and observe the terraced fields that are a testament to the ingenuity of local farming communities.
By late afternoon, we arrive at our destination for the night, either in one of the villages of Tidli or slightly higher in Agadir village, situated at around 2400m. Around 16:00h, we are welcomed with a warm glass of Moroccan tea, a moment to change into comfortable clothes, and some time to relax and unwind. As the sun dips below the mountains, the air fills with the peaceful hum of village life, marking the perfect end to our first trekking day.
Day 2Tidli - Oukaimeden
Fuelled from a hearty breakfast, we leave these remote picturesque villages; continue our ascent to Tizi n´Oukaimeden at 2600m. You will notice the landscape and flora changes as we near the pass and there are stunning views across to the high peaks of Toubkal and Ouankrim. We descend across the wild flower alpine fields to the ski resort of Oukaimeden where we will have a picnic lunch by the lake. After a local guide will show you the ancient rock art located on the opposite side of the road to the lake. We will continue our trek along the valley to a village called Azib Tiferguine where there are more petroglyphs to be seen, in particular a frieze of elephants. The rock art reflects the animals acient people saw, the weapons used and symbols. We will have a wild camp in this area for the night, sleeping under the stars in this ancient site. If the group is big enough then we may possibly be able to buy a sheep or goat from one of the shepherds which will be roasted in a traditional mechoui oven. A rare treat!
Day 3Oukaimeden - Timichchi
We leave the camp site and continue our trek, today we have a long ascent to 3130m to the pass of Tizi n´Ouhattar which is all always worth it for the views. We descend from the pass to the Ourika Valley and the villages of Agounss and Tinoummer and have a lunch break. Rested and well fed, we continue along the trail and the valley where we will spend the night in a local family homestay.
Day 4Timichchi - Ourika Valley - Setti Fatma
After breakfast, we pack up the mules and set off on the trail along the Ourika Valley. We pass quite a few Berber villages on the terraced mountainsides, so lots of amazing photo opportunities. We will arrive in the riverside village of Setti Fatma where we say goodbye to the Muleteers. We will have a late lunch in one of the riverside restaurants and relax. When we are ready to leave, the transfer vehicle will be waiting to take us to Marrakech.
